5 Undervalued NBA Teams

Toronto Raptors- If TJ Ford stays healthy (a big if), the Raptors are loaded with young talent that will only get better as the year progresses. They started off bad enough that everyone has forgotten about them but are still allowing 5ppg less than last season. Not many teams have as much young, high-end talent.

Chicago Bulls- This team has had big 2nd halfs the last two seasons, and that’s a tribute to Scott Skiles. Look for more improvement as this year wears on, and have to think Ben Wallace will be tamed and give this team the force it needs on the defensive end. Now if they can just rein in Ben Gordon a little bit. Recent 6 game road losing streak gives us value as that was a very tough slate of opponents and this group is notorious for slow starts.

Atlanta Hawks- Got off to a quick start but have now hit the wall. Look for improvement once they get Josh Childress and Marvin Williams back to help Joe Johnson out with the scoring. Only one of their losses are by double digits, and this young team will continue improve behind underrated superstar Johnson. Remember, Mike Woodson’ team doubled its win total last season from ’04, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them earn a playoff spot in the weak East.

Minnesota T-Wolves- Like the energy and production of rookies Randy Foye and Craig Smith, both who came in polished from 4 years of rugged Big East play. KG showing no signs of slowing down at 30, and this team can defend, allowing only 93ppg. They have to get better on the glass, and the rookies have to keep providing offense.

Memphis Grizzlies- Playing in a brutal division and more injury-ravaged than any other team in the league. Once they begin to get healthy, you know that Mike Fratello’s team will make some noise sooner or later, and you will be getting value based on early season performance. Defense still solid at 95 ppg and 45% FG pct., and those numbers should improve.
