Big Dance Preview: East Rutherford Region

Going to Atlanta- I could be wrong, but I don't rate the North Carolina Tar Heels as one of the top 6 teams that can win this tournament. Now that's not saying I don't think they are one most talented because I do, and in all honesty...They are probably #7 on my list. I'm just not sure that the Tar Heels can win a knock down, drag-out, low scoring slugfest that a Georgetown or Washington St. will make them play if either of these two hold serve. They waiver at times on defense, and remember Ty Lawson is a freshman PG. They have a lot of go-to guys on this team, but that's not always a good thing come tournament time. Certainly capable, but I'm looking elsewhere. Namely, the Georgetown Hoyas . The Hoyas have won 14 of their last 15 in the rugged Big East, and dismantled Pitt in the Big East championship. Their young guards have really improved and F Jeff Green can beat you in so many ways. Really liked that they show they can win in a come- from-behind shootout in the Big East Semis against Notre Dame (84-82). That will give them confidence, because when they control tempo in their Princeton style half-court offense, they usually get any shot they want. I like their draw, and young Thompson is wise beyond his years on the sidelines.

Washington St. is very dangerous but got a bit of a bad draw, as Georgetown plays a very similar style to the Cougars, a style that gives teams fits, but they do it it with bigger, more talented players. Texas is a true wild card with the amazing Kevin Durant. His supporting cast is improving every game, and they have a big shot here. All be told, the top 4 in this region are just as tough as the West Bracket, and maybe even the toughest of them all.

DEEP SLEEPER If you like the combination of coaching and backcourt play, then look no further than the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Bobby Knight can prepare for anyone, and Martin Zeno and especially Sr. Jarius Jackson give this team a puncher's chance when taking points. They have a win over Kansas and two over Texas Tech under their belt. They can't rebound, but you do not want to be in a close game trading possessions with this backcourt and head coach.
