WAC Breakdown

This week, I'll take the WAC under the microscope...

1. Fresno St 9-3 (7-1)
Expectations are high this year and if the defense can improve just a little bit, FSU could bring home their first WAC Title since 1999.

t2. New Mexico St 8-4 (6-2)
With 15 returning starters, including QB Chase Holbrook and WR Chris Williams, the Aggies should end its 47-season bowl drought.

t2. Boise St 9-3 (6-2)
With an inexperienced QB and four new offensive linemen, Boise might have a difficult time competing with the other top teams in the WAC.

t4. Hawaii 7-6 (5-3)
QB Tyler Graunke is pretty darn good and, with an improved Hawaii defense; don’t expect the Warriors to completely fall off the map in 2008.

t4. Nevada 7-5 (5-3)
The “Pistol” offense will be great with QB Colin Kaepernick and RB Luke Lippincott, but it’s the Wolf Pack defense that needs to step up if Nevada wants to go bowling this season.

6. San Jose St 6-6 (3-5)
With an unproven quarterback and only six starters back on the defensive side of the ball, SJSU should beat who they should and lose to everybody else.

7. La Tech 5-7 (3-5)
The Bulldogs have the talent to reach .500 or better, but the schedule (Miss St, @ Kansas, @ Boise, @ Hawaii) will be too much to overcome.

8. Utah St 1-11 (1-7)
Winning two games last year was certainly a step in the right direction and a duplicate of that in 2008 would be considered a success.

9. Idaho 1-11 (0-8)
The Vandals lost to every D-I school last year and could lose to everyone on its schedule this year, save Idaho St.
